GARBAGE

The City of Johnstown offers weekly trash collection through a contract with Waste Management.  The following chart lists collection days for each neighborhood.

Residents are billed $70 twice a year for this service. Payments are due on April 30th and September 30th.

RECYCLING

The City conducts pick-up of recyclable materials on certain trash collections days.  Free recycling bins are available in Room 202 of City Hall.  Recycling bins should be placed out with trash on your neighborhood’s designated collection day on a bi-weekly basis according to the following monthly schedule:

  • Downtown, Kernville, & 8th Ward below Hospital
  • Roxbury & 8th Ward above Hospital
  • Moxham – Lower side of Cypress Ave. and below

Only certain items can be placed for curbside collection, others can be dropped off at designated recycling areas at the Derby Street entrance of Roxbury Park or the D St. ball field.  See the following chart for a list of recyclable items and the proper collection of each.

Appliance Drop-off

The City, in conjunction with PA Clean Ways of Cambria County, sponsors an appliance recycling day in the spring and fall every year.  Appliances that contain freon such as freezers, refrigerators, dehumidifiers and air conditioners in addition to appliances such as stoves, washers, dryers, hot water tanks, microwaves, etc., may be dropped off for a small fee.  Dates and location are advertised prior to the event.

TIRES, BATTERIES AND MISCELLANEOUS

The City maintains a list of businesses that recycle tires, batteries, scrap metals and used cooking oil.  Call 814-533-2089 for more information.

Motor Oil Recycling

The City accepts used motor oil, free of charge, for recycling into heating fuel, new motor oil, and industrial lubricants.  Oil may be dropped off at the Highway Garage located at 419 Sixth Avenue in Cambria City, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am -  2:30 pm.
