Citizens Police Academy

The Citizen’s Police Academy is a state funded program that offers education and training to residents of the Johnstown Police coverage area on various law enforcement issues.  The academy runs for six weeks on Tuesdays from 6 - 8 pm on the 5th floor of the Public Safety Building. Academy instructors include police officers, district magistrates, 911 operators, district attorneys and medics who cover the following topics:

• The entry-level training received by police officers
• The myths about law enforcement
• The barriers between citizens and police
• How the department can meet residents on common ground
• Knowledge of constitutional law, state law and general police procedures
